Trailborn Rocky Mountains is a 4-star boutique hotel located just minutes from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado. I spent a weekend here in May 2025 and was genuinely impressed by its thoughtful design, welcoming atmosphere, and unbeatable access to outdoor adventure. Whether you’re planning a national park getaway or just looking for a relaxing mountain retreat, this review will give you a detailed look at what it’s really like to stay at Trailborn Rocky Mountains.
Spoiler: I loved my stay, and while this is based on my personal experience, I think this hotel is an excellent option for travellers who value both style and location.
About Trailborn Rocky Mountains

Trailborn Rocky Mountains is part of the Trailborn hotel collection, a hospitality brand focused on well-designed stays in iconic outdoor destinations. One of the first things I noticed about the hotel was the design elements. Some traditional park lodges can feel dated, but Trailborn Estes Park blends a mid-century modern vibe with a stylish Scandi-inspired feel. Bold design, curated spaces, and elevated amenities, all without losing cosy mountain charm appeal.
The property also has clean, design-forward rooms, an onsite restaurant (Casa Colina), a general store, and extra touches like a swimming pool and nightly s’mores by the fire. It’s also dog-friendly, family-welcoming, and ideal for anyone looking to explore the Rockies without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
Accommodation Options

Trailborn Rocky Mountains offers a range of room types to suit different needs, including King, Deluxe King, Double Queen, Deluxe Double Queen, and Family Suite options. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, or with a crew in tow, there’s a space with you in mind.
I stayed in a Deluxe King Room, and it was perfect for our weekend getaway. We had plenty of space to spread out and settle in. The extra bed doubles as a comfy sofa, and there’s a small dining table area, giving you flexible space to eat, work, or plan your adventures. The main bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and modern with a walk-in shower and elevated bath products.

The room is thoughtfully designed with warm wood tones, natural textures, and cosy lighting. I especially loved the local touches, like a set of trail guidebooks and a pour-over coffee setup with coffee from a Denver roastery. Another standout feature was the soft-sided cooler provided in the room. Perfect when heading out on a day hike or picnic in Rocky Mountain National Park. Other amenities included a mini fridge, ample hooks and storage for gear, a TV and heat/air conditioning.

Dining Options
Trailborn’s onsite restaurant, Casa Colina, is a bright, welcoming space just off the lobby, serving up flavourful Mexican dishes and drinks. The fully stocked bar makes a mean margarita – trust me, you’ll want to try one. It’s the ideal spot to wind down after a day of hiking or exploring Estes Park.

In the mornings, you’ll find a range of breakfast options and good coffee to get you going. Over our stay, we tried their breakfast burritos, tacos, oatmeal, and morning pastries. I follow a gluten-free diet, and the staff went out of their way to make sure everything was safe and delicious, something I really appreciated.

I especially recommend coming by for dinner. The tacos are delicious, and the cocktails are exactly what you want after a day of exploring. I fell in love with the chicken tinga and passionfruit margarita, which are a must-try! There’s bar seating, indoor tables, and a great outdoor patio that’s perfect for enjoying the crisp mountain air with your meal.

And if you’re craving something sweet before calling it a night, don’t miss the complimentary nightly campfire s’mores. Trailborn sets out a full s’mores station in the lobby with marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, and roasting sticks. Guests gather around the huge patio firepit – a cosy, nostalgic touch that adds a little mountain magic to your stay.
Amenities at Trailborn Rocky Mountains
These are some of the amenities I loved and believe makes Trailborn Rocky Mountains more than just a place to sleep.
The outdoor firepit seemed to be one of the hotel’s best-loved features. Every evening, guests gather around with s’mores or a drink from the bar to take in the fresh mountain air and starry skies. It’s social, cosy, and a great way to unwind.

The seasonal outdoor pool is a bonus for the warmer months. It looks like the perfect spot to cool off after a summer hike or simply lounge with a view. Sun loungers and umbrellas make it easy to spend an afternoon here. Sadly, it was too cold for us to try it out, but I’d love to go back in the summer.
Inside, the stylish lobby lounge with local art, comfy seating, and a shop stocked with travel goods, outdoor gear, and snacks is a great addition. Free Wi-Fi and easy check-in kept things simple and modern, and ample on-site parking made coming and going easy. Free bike rentals are also an added plus for exploring the town.

While Trailborn has all the amenities you’d expect from a boutique hotel, it’s the thoughtful little touches like trail maps, outdoor seating nooks, and genuinely welcoming staff that make the experience stand out.

Activities & Tours at Trailborn Rocky Mountains
One of the things I loved most about staying at Trailborn Rocky Mountains was how easy they make it to plan your time in Estes Park. At check-in, you’ll receive a “Guide to Your Stay” – a beautifully designed booklet packed with room tips, trail recommendations, and local favourites. It’s clear the team genuinely wants you to experience the best of the area.

You’ll also find a “What’s Happening This Month” leaflet tucked in with your room key. This rotating mini-guide lists events, live music, farmers markets, and seasonal happenings in Estes Park and nearby – perfect for spontaneous adventuring. It’s a thoughtful touch that helps you feel like a local, not just a visitor.
Trailborn also offers its own curated tours and experiences for guests, which range from guided hikes and fly fishing to yoga sessions and white-water rafting (depending on the season). It’s ideal if you want a low-effort way to explore, especially if you’re new to the area or just want someone else to do the planning.

Whether you’re chasing summits in Rocky Mountain National Park or just browsing town shops and breweries, Trailborn makes it easy to connect with the nature, culture, and energy of Estes Park with no stress.
Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park
Trailborn’s location makes it easy to explore the best of both Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. These were a few of my personal highlights if you’re looking for some inspiration.
Things to do in Estes Park

Eat & Wander Downtown Estes Park
Downtown Estes Park is full of local shops, cosy cafés, and casual spots to grab a bite. I loved browsing the mountain gear and artisan gifts, then grabbing dinner at Bird & Jim! It’s the kind of place where you’ll always find something new with each stroll. Also, keep a lookout for elk; they stroll around freely, and they’re not shy.

Visit The Stanley Hotel
Famous for its architecture, history, and a certain Stephen King connection (The Shining), The Stanley is a fun stop whether you’re into ghost stories or just want to explore the grounds with a drink in hand. You can take a guided tour, stop for a cocktail at the whiskey bar, or simply walk around and take in the views.
Rocky Mountain National Park Recommendations

Hike to Emerald Lake
If you do only one hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, make it this one. The Emerald Lake Trail is stunning from start to finish. It passes three alpine lakes, Dream Lake, Nymph Lake and Emerald Lake, with incredible scenery all along the way. It’s accessible but still feels like a true mountain experience. But if you’re visiting during peak season (late May-mid-October), you’ll need a timed entry permit. You can check here.
Explore the Wild Basin Area
Quieter than other areas of the park, Wild Basin is one of my favourite hidden gems. You’ll find cascading waterfalls, peaceful trails, and fewer crowds. The Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls trails are especially worth your time.

Stroll Around Lily Lake
This easy loop offers big views with minimal effort. Lily Lake is a great low-key alternative if you want to stay close to town but still see iconic mountain reflections. It’s also a great picnic or sunset spot!
So, if you’re planning a trip to Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park, don’t hesitate to check out Trailborn Rocky Mountains. I loved my stay here and would absolutely come back for the sunsets, the s’mores, and yes, the passionfruit margaritas. Save this post for your next Colorado adventure!
